Too often we give children answers to remember rather than problems to solve. ~ Roger Lewin

First off, a HUGE thank you to all that have served our country and fought for our freedom!

While we didn’t have a BBQ, go to a parade or really do much today, my daughter created this adorable wreath yesterday. She was thrilled with it! We hung it on the front door to honor this special day.

I found a great Homeschooling resource this morning and thought some of you might enjoy it as well. I really like that I can choose by subject and grade level-you can also search by keyword or topic. This site includes things like: Ebooks, audio, illustrations, comics and more! All of it is free, but 99% of the content listed on the site can be used to make your own products- even commercially.

Enjoy! Homeschool Commons

  • In my life this week…
We enjoyed the last couple of days of our vacation at Lake Billy Chinook with friends.
  • In our homeschool this week…
Playing, Fishing, Swimming, Kayaking, Building with Sticks, Rock Climbing and lots of laughter.
  • I am inspired by…
God’s creation. Central Oregon is so amazingly beautiful!!
  • Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
We’ve taken it easy the rest of this week and have taken a break from school after returning from vacation. Little Man played in his first baseball game last night. It was SO much fun to watch the kids play.
  • My favorite thing this week was…
My sons baseball game. The little kids are SO cute running after the ball and trying to figure out which base to throw it too.
  • Thoughts I have…
I have the best life! Today I watched as my son went out with his Monster Trucks to a dirt patch in our yard and played. He piled dirt on them, raced them and built them a track. Imagine all of the moments I would miss like this if he wasn’t home with me.
  • Things I’m working on…
I was chosen as a Design Team Member for  Late Night Stampers. I have been working on my creations and playing with my new Stampin’ Up! goodies. Us lucky Demonstrators were able to pre-order some items before the new catalog comes out on June 1st.
  • I’m reading…
I haven’t been able to do much reading lately. I’m still in the same place in the same books I was a couple of weeks ago.
  • I’m grateful for…
Making new friends. I met some wonderful people on our trip and can’t wait until we do it again next year.
  • I’m praying for…
A friends son. He is 8 and has severe neurological issues that cause him extreme rage and violence. He is back in the children’s mental ward of the hospital. It is uncertain whether he will be able to come back home. My heart aches for this wonderful family and for this helpless child.

  • In my life this week…

Little Man had baseball practice again. I LOVE watching the kids play! Next Tuesday in their first game!

  • In our homeschool this week…

We carved fruit! If you haven’t seen the book Food Play, I highly recommend seeing if you can get your hands on a copy. It is SO cool. Since we are studying nutrition, this was a fun activity to do.

  • Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We are off to Lake Billy Chinook tomorrow. SO excited!

  • My favorite thing this week was…

Reading stories on encouraging others and generosity for part of our Boxcar Children unit study.
What we read:
Larry Lights the Way
Under the Lemon Moon (very touching story)
Mama Panya’s Pancakes (This book is fabulous and has a wonderful recipe in the back for the pancakes made in the story. These aren’t your ordinary pancakes either. We really enjoyed them).

  • Questions/thoughts I have…

Do you Unschool? Have you Unschooled, but changed your method?

  • Things I’m working on…

Becoming organized enough to school, clean and run a business. And let’s not forget all the random stuff that happens.

  • I’m reading…

Still on the same books as last week. There is just so many books and so little time.

  • I’m Cooking….

I made a stew this week and am making White Chicken Chili tonight. Otherwise dinner has been really simple since my husband has been traveling this week.

  • I’m grateful for…

Being able to have these wonderful memories of laughter and learning with my children.

In my life this week…

We started using FIAR again. The kids really enjoyed using this last year and so we started back up using Beyond FIAR. You can read more about how this had affected our schooling here.

In our homeschool this week…

Science experiment Monday (we learned how soap works on dirt. The kids loved getting their hands all dirty in the mud),  Art on Tuesday, Village Home tour and Baseball on Thursday, Sonlight Consultation today.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

Always see if you can visit a co-op to see what it’s like before you join. I learned the lesson the hard way.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

My son started baseball practice this week. This is his first year and his excitement is off the charts!

My favorite thing this week was…

Watching my kids have so much fun doing their lapbooks for The Boxcar Children and reenacting chapter one.

Questions/thoughts I have…

Does anyone have a favorite organizer they use to keep track of appointments/schedules etc.? I’ve been using an online calendar, but I really need something I can physically see and carry with me.

Things I’m working on…

Patience! Having an older child wait for a younger child to finish with something so we can move on stretches me sometimes.

I’m reading…

The Surrender of Miss Fairbourne (I never thought in a million years I would read this type of book. But I love the historical aspect).

The Hunger Games (round 2-didn’t care for it the first time, but loved the movie and am giving it another go).

The ultimate book of homeschooling ideas : 500+ fun and creative learning activities for kids ages 3-12

The read-aloud handbook  (I like Honey for the Heart better).

Family Math

I’m Cooking….

Made some awesome Split Pea soup the other night with homemade cornbread. Tomorrow we are having a Canadian stew made in the Dutch Oven and homemade Schommer’s Whole Grain Bread.

I’m grateful for…

Finding a wonderful church. We have really had a hard time in the last few years finding one we knew was the place for us.

I’m praying for…

God’s guidance in my business. It’s something I really want to tackle and be successful at-I’m just not sure it’s going to fit with our busy lives right now.
